it doesn;t solve the problem of overtweeting – like all things, moderation is best. I mean, it forces me to type something in 140 letters or less. No easier way to encounter the soul of wit I say.

Almost no one uses it anymore, for the reasons you mention. Get TweetDeck and do a google search for how to filter and group tweets and followers.
