He's changing numbers since he's going to the Bulls, where 23 is retired. Or so I hear.

Bron has some credibility in his argument, considering the NHL retired its own gambling icon's #99.

It's also kind of an organizational problem. When Jeter came up with the Yankees, they gave him #2 on purpose. I'm sure Kobe picked #8 because he wanted to die in that number. LeBron's choice was definitely a problem, and the Cavs were probably just so happy to have him they'd give him anything. It was cute when he did it in high school. That said, if he stays in Cleveland, I would detest a change, especially to 6, which he's threatening (what a terrible number). If he changes teams (and this whole thing makes me think he will), he can do whatever he wants, like when Bonds switched to #25 in SF.

I get your point, and in general I agree but in Lebron's specific case I disagree. I disagree because, like you, I thought rocking #23 was dumb in the first place. It's one thing for a run-of-the-mill player to wear #23, like Toney Douglas on the 'Bockers. But for a young player who knows before he ever steps foot on the court that he is going to be legendary to wear the iconic number of a player only recently retired was uninspired. He should make his own number iconic.

like No I.D. said, "Accept your own and be yourself."
