No More Vineyard/Nantucket Game?
by Bryan
Sorting out my feelings on the news that this year’s Vineyard/Nantucket game has been canceled, and the Obama Nobel Peace Prize announcement. I also think the ALDS is insidious, not for any fundamental reason but because the short series forces you to watch all of it. I’m happy to miss an inning or game or two of a seven-game series, but if you blink you might miss a best-of-fiver. For all Bud Selig says about there being no compelling reason to change the playoff system, I think that’s the most obvious one. But what do I know?
That’s it for now. Saw The Informant! last night, was unimpressed.
Does it even need to be said that the reason Natucket cancelled the game is because they are now horrible at football?
We have won six consecutive years and nine of the last 10.
The past three years we have scored 47, 48 and 43 points respectively against the once mighty Whalers.
This from the Cap Cod Times’ coverage of last year’s game:
“The Vineyarders, with coach Donald Herman saying he treated the game almost as a scrimmage, routed Nantucket 43-22, ensuring the Whalers their first winless season since 1964 (0-4-2), Vito Capizzo’s first year as head coach.”
A scrimmage!
Anyway, it’s a real shame. It’s a fucking travesty, man.
